What happens when some pretty damn talented BMX riders want to support a skin cancer awareness campaign? Have a look for yourself…
Worldchampion BMX flatland Irina „priMa“ Sadovnik and Silvio D’Onofrio, her sponsor Vans Vienna, decided to document their weekend in the Austrian city of Klagenfurt, armed with their BMX, lots of sunscreen and a pack of #fasterthanskincancer stickers.
Their adventures lead them to several spots where they met friends such as the skatepark local Hansi and Ibo to athlete Kevin Böck who has his own ramp set-up in his frontyard. The summer season has skaters and BMXers alike practising out in the sun all day while not thinking about protecting themselves from sun exposure.
Unfortunately each year more and more people are diagnosed with melanoma and other types of skin cancer. Skin cancer is meanwhile in the top 3 of the most common cancer types amongst young adults. We aim to bring the number of newly diagnosed skin cancer patients down and when prevention has failed, we aim for early detection. We hope to be ‚Faster Than Skincancer‘ by encouraging you to:
– Protect your skin from sun damage
– Note suspicious spots on your skin (fast)
– Start a conversation about skin cancer
Anybody roaming the city of Klagenfurt will from now on find small hints of these riders spreading the message 😉
Do us a favour and slap on some sunscreen next time you take your BMX out for a ride!
